Born on 22 November 1993, Zuchu grew up surrounded by music. Her mother, celebrated taarab singer Khadija Kopa, introduced her to an artistic tradition where vocal expression, language and storytelling carry equal weight. Her late brother Omar Kopa and Tanzanian music icon Lady Jaydee also inspired her
ambitions. These influences remain present in the phrasing, melodies and emotional detail she brings to her songs.

In 2015, Zuchu participated in the inaugural TECNO Own the Stage competition in Lagos, Nigeria, gaining valuable experience beyond Tanzania. Years of preparation followed before her official introduction under WCB Wasafi in April 2020 with her debut EP, I Am Zuchu. The project marked the arrival of an artist with a distinctive voice and a clear understanding of her musical identity.

Her breakthrough accelerated with “Sukari” in 2021. Its memorable melody, playful Swahili lyrics and unmistakable delivery made it a defining record in her catalogue. Songs such as “Nyumba Ndogo,” “Kwikwi” and “Honey” further demonstrated her range, moving between romantic storytelling and energetic records that connect naturally with audiences on the dance floor and on stage.

Zuchu expanded that musical world with Peace and Money, exploring relationships, independence and emotional vulnerability through solo recordings and collaborations. Her ability to move between intimate songs and bold, dance-driven material has become a defining strength. Throughout that range, her voice and command of Swahili remain central to her appeal.

Performance is an equally important part of her artistry. Combining live vocals, choreography and a strong connection with her audience, Zuchu brings personality and precision to the stage. Her reputation as a performer, alongside the reach of her recordings, has helped establish her at the forefront of East
African female talent.

Her career has earned recognition from the Tanzania Music Awards and nominations across major African and international platforms, including the MTV Europe Music Awards, The Headies, Trace Awards and Soundcity MVP Awards.

Her digital presence has also helped her build a community of listeners across countries, extending the reach of Swahili music and strengthening her position within contemporary African entertainment.

Beyond music, Zuchu is a brand ambassador for HOWO Trucks and African Star, a women’s hair company. Her commercial portfolio has also included partnerships with Tridea Cosmetics, Darling Hair Tanzania, Infinix Mobile and Zantel, reflecting her appeal across beauty, telecommunications and
commercial vehicles.

Her appointment as a Zanzibar Tourism Ambassador in 2021 extended her public role into promoting the culture and destination that helped shape her.

From her musical upbringing in Zanzibar to her career with WCB Wasafi, Zuchu has built her success through sustained preparation, a distinctive artistic identity and a commitment to performance. She stands among the defining female voices of East African music, carrying Swahili culture into new markets while
continuing to raise expectations for what women from the region can achieve.
